Character Studies

Stand is the first book in a planned series for inclusion, with four books planned to cover topics on physical disability, intellectual disability, gender identity and race.

Amelia

Amelia is looking forward to starting school and making friends. She loves sunflowers, helping others, and being an advocate for those that have physical disabilities.

  • Amelia has a prosthetic leg on her left side.

Harper

Harper loves art and drawing, but not as much as she loves her friends. Harper has a physical disability, IDD and seizures, but that doesn’t stop her from doing what she loves.

  • Harper has cerebral palsy, and an intellectual/developmental delay (IDD).
  • Harper has seizures that are partially controlled with medicine.
  • Harper has a hemiparesis, which means that her left arm and leg have some paralysis that affects the way she walks, and limits the use of her left arm and hand.

Cooper

Cooper loves making new friends, helping others that are in need, volunteering with his parents, theatre, and making sure his queens are okay.

Violet

Violet has a feisty personality. If someone ever dares to hurt Violet’s besties, she will come to you and stand up for her friends. Violet loves her friends, playing sports, and being an advocate.

Micky

And then there is Micky. We’ll talk about Micky soon, just know that he’s working some stuff out for himself.
